Edward Lewis Berthoud Collection, 1851-1907
Collection consists of correspondence and other material relating to Edward Lewis Berhoud. Born in Switzerland in 1828, Berthoud came to Colorado in 1859. From 1862-1866 he commanded Company D of the Second Colorado Cavalry, and later became associated with the Colorado Central Railroad. The collection contains correspondence (ca. 1849-1907); military records (ca. 1862-1866); business records (ca. 1870-1890); and a scrapbook of clippings. The bulk of the business records pertain to the construction and operation of the Colorado Central Railroad, as well as surveys of other rail lines in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.
