Saltillo-San Miguel type. Wool; woven in two pieces. Reds, brown, white and blue horizontal stripes on blue background. Overall snowflake pattern in red and white. Central double serrate in brown, red, white, and orange.
Orvil R. Whitaker was a mining engineer in Mexico and Central America from about 1898 until approximately 1920. This textile was collected by Mr. Whitaker during the period from 1900-1910 when his wife Almina (Mina) Killgore Whitaker was with him. They were in Ojuela, a small silver mining town in the Provence of Durango.
