This is a quartzite, projectile point fragment.
Collected at the Living Springs Stage Station Site (5AM.152). This site was the main stage station on the Fort Morgan cut-off stage route. Exact dates for its use are unknown but are thought to be mid-1800s. This collection documents use of the site by Native Americans before the stage station was built. The collection consists of projectile point fragments, stone tools, flakes, and Plains Woodland cord-marked pottery sherds, covering a span of time from from at least 13,000 years ago to the Plains Woodland period (AD 150 to AD 1150). The lithics are of both local and nonlocal material indicating either trade or long distance travel to acquire materials. Living Springs is located northeast of Strasburg, CO.
