This miner's pick consists of two pieces: the double-ended head, and the handle. The head is manufactured from solid iron, and the handle is wooden. The head is fitted over the end of the handle like a metal sleeve. Two metal wedges have been hammer down into the top of the wooden handle, expanding the width of the wood and thus insuring a tight fit to the head. The pick tool is symmetrical in shape with the ends of the pick shaped like four-sided metal spikes.
Handcarved into one side of metal head: "P.P."
