Mary Butler Brown Collection, 1893-1955
Collection consists of correspondence, scrapbooks, clippings, photographs, records of the Society of Colorado Pioneers, and materials related to Mary Butler Brown and her association with the Territorial Daughters of Colorado, the Native Daughters of Colorado and Pioneer Ladies Aid Society.
Born in Denver City in the Territory of Colorado in 1860, Mary Butler Brown was chosen by the Rocky Mountain News as the first "Miss Colorado" for the July 4, 1876 celebration of Colorado's entrance into the Union. She later served as secretary of the Society of Colorado Pioneers and was an active participant in a number of similar organizations. Brown died in 1957.
