Landa Radium Research Collection
Research material compiled by Edward R. Landa in 1987 on the radium industry in Colorado for a 1987 monograph published by the Colorado School of Mines.
These materials were used a Colorado School of Mines 1987 monograph "Buried Treasure to Buried Waste: The rise and fall of the radium industry" by Edward R. Landa (Colorado School of Mines Quarterly v. 82, no. 2).
The 2019 book, "Radium City: A History of America’s First Nuclear Industry," by Joel O. Lubenau and Edward R. Landa covers the activity of the largest of the American radium producing companies (Standard Chemical Company) in Colorado and Pennsylvania in the early 20th century, and later work on environmental remediation at sites in both states by state and federal agencies. This 2019 book would be a useful adjunct to the materials in Mss. 1327, and is available for free download at https://www.heinzhistorycenter.org/publications/western-pennsylvania-history-magazine.
