The Duran family settled in the 1600s in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Moved to Abiqui, New Mexico (Donaciana family) then settled in San Luis Valley. Paternal grandparents lived in Huerfano County (Redwing and Benito near Gardner). Teresa Duran’s maternal grandparents, the Maldonado family, owned a large sheep ranch in La Veta at the base of the Spanish Peaks, where there is a Morada on their property.
