Otto Mears headstone ; Colorado Mountain and History slides
This slide shows a memorial headstone for Otto Mears. It is a black marble stone sitting on a concrete platform in a gravely cemetery. The headstone reads: "In memory of Otto Mears Pathfinder of the San Juan / Pioneer Road builder / Built this road in 1881 / Erected by a grateful people 1926"
Donated by Cherry Moore in 2014. The photographs were taken by her father, Charles Moore. He was born and raised on a ranch in Eldorado Springs in 1913. He was an avid camper and mountaineer and had hiked half of Colorado's 14'ers. He joined the hiking club during his time at CU (graduated in 1934). Most of the slides are photograph dating between 1930 and 1990. Charles Moore passed away in 1994.
