Percussion single barrel shotgun
muzzle loading, single shot, percussion, manual cock, no magazine, average bore diameter .570 caliber
loose powder and shot, 30 1/8" octagon barrel for 7" (from breech), then 23 1/8" round.
Half stock, wood unknown. Severe crack in stock in lock area and a large piece of wood missing (3/8" x 2 1/2") in front of lock. another large piece of wood missing (1/2" x 3"). Near the fore end, right side pinned barrel, held in by a square iron nail now (bent over). stock screw replaced with a brass wood screw.
Finger groove in stock near rear ramrod pipe to facilitate ramrod removal. Lock and hammer have simple engraving. Read of lock has a game bird engraved on it. Following parts are pinned - read ramrod pipe, trigeer, and fron of trigger guard. All parts and furniture are iron except lock plate washer which is brass.
"JOSEPH GOLCHER" (probably the maker or the seller of the lock only). Top of barrel "ELG" in voal (Liege, Belgian proof mark). The stock has "WRA" carved into it on the right side in fron of the lock. Also "Walter Allen" carved into the butt stock (right side). Probably an owner of this shotgun at one time.
