The head of the axe has metal support pieces reaching down wooden handle while the axe head has a flat bladed half and a longer narrow pick with a serrated edge. The base of the handle has a metal spike in it. The handle has a metal ring on it with a leather strap attached to it.
Stuart P. Dodge of Colorado Springs served as a civilian instructor with the Mountain and Winter Warfare Center at Fort Carson and the Mountain Training Command from 1946 to 1957. The equipment he used to train and instruct was manufactured during World War II for the 10th Mountain Division.
