The splints are made out a light color and light weight wood. In the middle of splints is the stamp A. M. Day & Co Bennington VT. It is hard to read due to fading of the ink. There is some discoloration on the edges of the objects. There is a rough patch on the front of the splint with A. M. Day & Co Bennington VT stamp across the wood.
The splints were patented and manufactured by Dr. Almiron M. Day. He securing his patents during the mid 1850’s through the mid 1860’s, Dr. Day’s splints were generally used in the army hospitals during the Civil War. http://www.mcpheetersantiquemilitaria.com/12_army_medical/12_item_016.htm
