This American Indian manufactured pipe consists of a polished catlinite pipe bowl, and a hand-carved wooden pipe stem with a polished catlinite mouthpiece. The pipe is an elbow type pipe. The pipe bowl is T-shaped, and the pipe stem is quadrangular with rounded edges. The stem is decorated with incised lines and symbols including that of a sun.
Objects belonging to Edward Bent Box Sr. were donated to History Colorado in 2014 by his widow and executor of his estate, Diane Box. Their wishes were that his possessions return to Colorado, where he was born and lived much of his life. According to Diane Box, this was Edward Bent Box Sr.'s personal Sun Dance pipe.
