Foreground and middleground depicts a large office, most of the men wear long coats, pants tucked into knee-high boots, full beards, hats/caps on head. Man on left carries his buggy whip in right pocket. A horse-shoe shape counter houses the gold dust weighing instrument behind a glass enclosure, three men behind the counter helping, one man behind the glass case doing the weighing. Men are leaving and entering the Butterfield Overland Company. Two pictures hang from the wall, as well as the sculpture of a man's bust.
