Construction of Valley Greenhouse #74
Construction of Valley Greenhouse #74 at 2900 South Yosemite Street, Denver, circa 1956. The greenhouses were 24,200 square feet of glass structures with controlled temperature and humidity that allowed for the propagation, planting, and growth of several different varities of Colorafo carnations. The carnations were marketed and distributed through local wholesalers. Daughter Geri (Jorgensen) Adams remembers early trips to the Elephant Corral in downtown Denver to deliver cut flowers in preparation for shows and delivery to retailers througout the country. Big blocks of ice kep the area cool. Later distribution was handled through Denver Wholesale Florists still located at 48th Street and Dahila.
