Mt. Evans' scenic byway as a dirt road, before pavement was applied
A black and white negative of Mt. Evans' scenic byway to the summit, circa 1935-1939. The road is shown curving to the left coming from the camera's view; the road is composed of dirt, before it was paved. Mountain peaks with snow are visible in the background. The image is one of four on the same film strip.
This photograph is part of a larger collection of film negatives taken by Jack Sugarman documenting the construction and opening ceremonies of the scenic byway to the summit of Mount Evans in the 1930s. Sugarman was a part of the Conservation Corp. that built the road. The collection was donated to History Colorado in 2019 on behalf of Jack Sugarman.
