Project Description: As part of the advisory committee for the exhibit El Movimiento, Daniel Salazar interviewed Carlos Santistevan on August 13, 2014. This oral history was the genesis for the 2018-2019 Movimiento Elders Project. The Movimiento Elders Project, per Salazar, was open to all interested in participating. The interviews began by asking each participant "When did you become Chicano?" with discussion following aimed to document the history of the Chicano Movement in Colorado. Organized by Salazar, himself a Colorado native and descendent of Hispanic and Mexican immigrants, the project included Salazar photographing each participant and transcribing each interview. The Movimiento Elders Project was an independent documentation project, conducted by Salazar and donated to History Colorado in 2021.
