Gift of Joseph P. Ruth Jr. in 1938. Collected by his father, Joseph P. Ruth Sr., at an unknown time and place. Joseph Ruth Jr. donated a number of other American Indian objects at the same time. All are attributed to his father, and cataloged as either of Arapaho or simply Plains Indian in general, origin. There is no record of when, where, or how Ruth Sr. obtained them. Census records and city directories identify him as an iron worker living in Denver at the turn of the 20th century. He was originally from Pennsylvania--born in 1862. His wife, Luella J. Wilbur Ruth was born in 1860 in Ohio. The couple married in 1893 in Colorado.
