Clarence King Collection, 1861-1881
Collection consists of microfilm of correspondence and reports from Clarence King and other members of the survey team of the U.S. Army of Engineers, ca. 1867-1879. Born in Newport, Rhode Island in 1842, King graduated from Yale University in 1862, and immediately began employment with the California Geological Survey. In 1867 he was placed in charge of the survey of the 40th Parallel (from Cheyenne, Wyoming to eastern California).
