Mountain High Suckers was founded by Chad Tribble and John Garrison. The company started in 2009 out of Chad's kitchen in Englewood, Colorado, first producing hard candies and suckers for the medical industry and later for recreational use after Colorado Amendment 64 passed in 2013. In 2010, the company tested their ethanol extraction oil, produced in house, before testing was mandated. They wanted to know how strong the suckers were for their patients and what the milligrams of cannabinoids were in each sucker. After submitting their oil for testing they found out that there were high amounts of CBD in the oil and determined they were the only company in America selling products with infused CBD at that time. They determined what marijuana plant was best for producing their product and continued to grow just that plant (Crazy Kush cannabis flower) to produce America's first THC and CBD edible, (from Chad Tribble and John Garrison oral history, 2019). Mountain High Suckers produces a variety of flavors, cannabinoid ratios, and various potency levels of lozenges and suckers. Currently, Mountain High Suckers products can be bought across Colorado and in Las Vegas, Nevada (2019).
From Chad Tribble and John Garrison oral history recording, 2019: John Garrison moved to Colorado in 1996 and met Tribble. Both moved to Colorado for the "Colorado lifestyle." Garrison became a caregiver grower for medical patients when there were a limited number of medical dispensaries. Tribble figured out how to infuse candy with cannabis and used Garrison's crop to produce a batch of suckers. In 2010, Colorado offered licenses for marijuana growing, edibles, or medical dispensaries. Tribble and Garrison applied for and were granted a growing and edible manufacturing license soon after.
