ES 8 16 2017: Carbine with long barrel. Stock and forestock are dark walnut. Butt plate, barrel, trigger/housing gunmetal-colored.

stock - Walnut. Separate butt stock and upper hand guard. Left side of butt stock has scars for being carried by the cavalry carbine sling swivel and sling.
Lock plate: "C. Sharps Pat./Oct. 5th 1852" also "R.S. Lawrence Pat./April 12th/1859", top of barrel "New Model 1863" and "Sharps Rifle/Manufg. Co/Hartford, Conn." On rear sight base "R.S. Lawrence / Patented / Feb 15th 1859". Left side of receiver "C. Sharps Pat./Sept 12 1848". Inspectors stamps (two) left side of stock at sling ring [ES 8 16 2017: two engraved, unintelligible marks in wood? Seems to be 3 initials surrounded by rectangle]. Inspector stamp "E.A.W." sling ring base and left side of barrel at breech. Single inspectors stamp "W" on butt plate heel, left side of receiver. "M" on level latch, "H" on barrel band (left side), and lower tip of trigger plate. Left side of loading lever stamped twice with a small "C"//
