This sixth plate daguerreotype of an unidentified man was taken by the Meade Brothers Daguerreotype Studio in New York, New York, circa 1852-1856.The daguerreotype is housed in a brass preserver and mat but has no case. Meade Brothers Daguerreotype Studio was run by Henry William Mathew Meade (1823-1865), his brother Charles Richard Meade (1826-1858) and their sister Mary Ann Meade (1826-1903). Mary Ann is often thought to be the world’s first female daguerreotypist. The Meade family had several studios throughout New York, including Buffalo, Albany and eventually one at 233 Broadway in New York City. This daguerreotype is part of the Evelyn Knight collection.
