This stereograph of eleven unidentified men outside next to a train travelling to New Mexico was captured by The Kilburn Brothers, Benjamin West (B.W.) Kilburn (1827-1909) and Edward Kilburn (1830-1884), circa 1870-1879. The men in this image are all well dressed in black suits with white shirts underneath their black jackets. Every man in this image is wearing a hat, and some are sitting while others are standing. They are resting near a small creek or stream that is flowing through a dry landscape of stones and dirt. There are two trees in this image on either side of the frame, and in the background there is a four car train on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad that is transporting these men to New Mexico. The Kilburn Brothers opened a factory in 1872 in order to produce their images quicker. Edward retired from the photography business later that decade, leaving Benjamin West to rename the company “B.W. Kilburn Co.”
