Kodachrome glass slide depicting sandstone cliffs as seen from a hiking trail in Zion National Park in Utah, taken in August 1952 by Alice Spengler (1919-2008).
Alice Spengler (1919-2008) and Maxine Johnson (1917-2013) were lifelong friends and companions. The two met in 1937 at Denver University, where Alice was working on her Master's degree in Library Science and Maxine was working in the accounting office for the School of Commerce. In 1939, Maxine Johnson took a position in the accounting office at the Colorado Women's College, and Alice Spengler began working there in 1944 as a librarian. Alice was also president of the Colorado Library Association. When not working, the two traveled together across Colorado and the Southwest. They took many photographs and kept journals detailing their trips.
