General Note: Part of the CWA Pioneer Interviews Collection. Consists of an interview of J.A. Brooker, an early day resident of Otero County, Colorado. Born in Kentucky in 1858, Brooker moved to Kansas with his family in 1871, where as a young man he worked as a surveyor, a freighter, and a cowboy. In 1879 he came to La Junta, where he worked as a cook at a boarding house and as an assistant at the train depot for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Company.
