Business card for Olive C. Butler and a program for a "Peanut and Popcorn Social" organized by Olive's daughter Lucy (later Collins).
Olive C. Butler (1841-1915) was a nominee for Colorado State Representative on the National Silver Party ticket in 1896. She is buried in Fairmount Cemetery. Martha Conine, Colorado Suffrage figure, is mentioned on the back of the card. Part of the Mini-MSS Collection.
Olive’s daughter Lucy M. Butler (Collins) organized a “Peanut and Popcorn Social November 23rd, 1900” which appears to have run from 8pm-2:30 am. The card and program demonstrate women’s involvement in politics around 1900.
Handwritten on back of the card is “Please return to Lucy Roth, 7995 Ackal (?) St., Arvada, Colo 80005.” Mrs. Roth died in 1983.
