Oil paint on canvas. This landscape shows the town of Monarch. There is a large cluster of houses along a road and train track that run diagonally through the painting. There is a black train pulling six carts. There are brown mining structures on the hill. The foreground is very small, only made up of large brown and gray rocks. There is vegetation and trees in town, the greenery thinning on the hills. The frame is made of wood, carved and gilded. The painting was done by Mrs. John Charbonnier of Maysville, CO in 1900 from a photograph taken in 1884. The mine is the famous old Madonna. Painting measures 24 1/2" height, 37 3/8" width, 1 3/4" frame depth.
