Description of Content: This is the breakfast menu from Nick's Cafe.
Nick’s Café was a Lakewood diner, was founded in 1986 by proprietor Nick Andurlakis. The diner was known for its wall-to-wall Elvis Presley decor, lovingly curated by Andurlakis, who encountered Elvis as a young man while working at the Colorado Mine Company. The diner’s most famous menu item was the Fool’s Gold Sandwich, made with peanut butter, jelly, and bacon – which was Elvis’s favorite sandwich at the Colorado Mine Company. While travelers from as far away as Sweden and Japan visited for the diner’s Elvis theme, locals kept coming back because of Nick and his wife Kathleen, to whom he proposed in the diner. Nick and Kathleen were huge supporters of their local community, throwing fundraisers to help neighbors, but in particular, those in law enforcement. To support the Lakewood Police Department, Nick’s Café opened at 4am to cater to officers changing shifts. Menu items named after some of the officers reflected their support, as did the hand-tiled tables, with the letters “L P D” appearing in blue and white tiles on one of the only eight tables in the cozy diner. Nick and Kathleen retired in 2022, closing the cafe.
