Doll has porcelain shoulder-head plate. with painted black hair. The body was hand made. Her arms are white kid. She is wearing a blue dress with blue and gold trim. She has a knee-length white apron over the top of the dress. She is wearing blue and white striped stockings and brown leather button-up boots. Clothing is original dating to the 1870s. China head doll has molded features and curls. Hair style is known as "flat top" and "high brow" and has a center part and ten sausage curls arranged around the side and back of the head. Doll has painted brown eyes with thin red line above the eye. Each nostril has a tiny dot of red. Cheeks are full and rosy. Shoulder head height is eight inches. Body is original and made of white cotton muslin stuffed with cotton. Leather arms are replacement for originals which were chewed by a family dog. Hand-sewn blue cotton dress has three-quarter sleeves. Neck, sleeves, and hem are trimmed with a blue and white woven check fabric. The neck and sleeves are finished with a narrow lace ruffle. Box pleats are used to form hem ruffle.
The white cotton pinafore has shoulder ruffle finished with scalloped eyelet trim. Pinafore wraps around and has two ties at back. Pinafore skirt has two rows of five tucks and is finished with a ruffle trimmed in eyelet. High top brown leather shoes appear to be children's shoes worn by a child age 12 to 18 months. Socks are a blue and white striped cotton knit. Sock on left leg covers an older brown and white knit sock that has been hand-stitched to the leg. Right sock covers only the muslin of the leg.
With the exception of the pinafore, which has two ties, alll clothes are sewn on and cannot be removed without pulling stitches. Shoes and socks are removable, but the age of the leather makes shoes very fragile and removal is not advisable.
