Collection consists of correspondence, diaries, and other material relating to Horace Morrison Hale. Born in Hollis, New Hampshire in 1833, Hale came to Denver in 1863. In 1868 he became superintendent of the Central City (Colorado) Public Schools, and in 1873 he became the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Territory of Colorado. In 1882 he was elected mayor of Central City, and in 1887 he became president of the University of Colorado. Hale died in Denver in 1907.
