Korean Service Medal, suspension ribbon, and Combat Action ribbon lapel pin recognizing the military service of James Abe Maestas(1937-2017). Medal and pin are housed in a blue cardboard box, original to medal. The Korean Service Medal is a round metal medallion with a Korean archway in center and "KOREAN SERVICE" in relief along top edge of front. On the reverse, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," a Taeguk (a traditional Korean symbol, representing balance in the universe), as well as oak and palm leaves are in relief. A metal ring attaches the medal to a light blue ribbon with thinner white stripes in center and left and right edges. The suspension ribbon has a straight pin and safety clasp closure on reverse. The service ribbon, made by Graco, is blue, yellow and red with thinner red, white and blue stripes in the center. A section of the brass bar is not covered by the ribbon. The bar lapel pin has butterfly clasps. This particular service ribbon is for active participation in ground or surface combat on or after December 7, 1941. The medal ribbon and lapel pin are not pinned to blue velvet cardboard insert in box. It is unclear if the medal and service ribbon were received together.
