Lereaux "Roe" Emery was born in Minnesota in 1875. His parents moved him to Montana when he was a teenager. He ranched in Montana and Wyoming until 1911-ish when he decided the automobile, not cattle was the future. He moved to Denver about 1912 and went into business in 1913 with Walter White of the White Motor Company. They founded the Glacier Park Transportation Company, bringing commercial tourist transportation into Glacier. He, the White Family Trust, and their partner, Howard Hays, owned the company until Emery died in 1953. Eventually the business was sold to what would now be described as Greyhound Buses. In 1916 he bought out F.O. Stanley's garages and fleet in Estes Park and founded Rocky Mountain Park Transportation Company, replacing the Stanley Steamers with White Motor Company buses, assisting in the overseeing of the construction of Fall River Road in 1918, buying Grand Lake Lodge and the Estes Park Chalets about 1924--eventually buying the Stanley Hotel from F.O. Stanley in 1929. He was the primary concessionaire in Rocky Mountain National Park from 1916 until his death in 1953. In 1929, Emery, Walter White, and Howard Hays bought the Yellowstone Park Camping Company and built all of the great lodges in Yellowstone. Harry Child had already built the inns, but the YPCC built the lodges which supported tourists who camped rather than staying in resort hotels. Emery was elected President of the National Western Stock Show in 1929 and forced to resign in 1942 because of differences in his vision of the entertainment vs. the vision of more purest agriculturists. This badge post-dates his tenure as the director of the stock show and dates to the year of his death.
