-The storage bag for book and items inside (now in object file) noted that the book was originally given to Mary by her father. At first glance one might think this was Mary's father Smith Stephenson, however the inscription on the title page of the book notes it was given by David Stanley. Also, per the inscription the book belonged to Mary Stanley indicating the book was given after her marriage to Daniel Vorhees Stanley in Missouri on September 6, 1886. Further research indicates that David Stanley was Dr. David Stanley, the father of Daniel Vorhees Stanley, who according to the Stanley family history (with his wife Drucilla Angeline Guin Stanley) migrated from Indiana to Missouri. Thus Mary's father-in-law gave her the book after her marriage to Daniel. In 1898 Mary and Dan came to Colorado, settling first in Boulder where they knew the Clearwater family. 1900 family moves to Lafayette and in 1910 Daniel goes to Colorado to look at Keota
