Per APF in accession file:
The documentation (including scan of stock brand) and digital photographs are additional provenance and items related to the history of the coverlet H.1234.1. This redwork signature coverlet was made in Fairplay, Colorado and includes family names of Doug Stiverson. Other names on the piece (some 400) include original donor - Mrs. Albert B. Crook.
Note from AZahller: I met Jo and Doug Stiverson and in 2002 when they requested to see H.1234.1; they were particularly interested in the name Grace Hammond as a 1st cousin to Doug's great-grandmother Hannah Bender. At that time they gave a family history for the Bender family and a few copy photos (now in the file for H.1234.1). In 2002, they also indicated that they had additional information on some names in the quilt. This photo is that additional information. 1. Donor provided detailed descriptions of photos given, see information in file. 2. Donor gave detailed names of Water Lily square and noted relation to donor Doug Stiverson. 3. Donor provided ancestry records. 4. Donor provided cover letter with history of how they came to donate the material and listed items given (stock brand sent by email later); also gave short family history. see attached Bender family history by Jo and Doug Stiverson, dated 1978, as copied from the file H.1234.1 The short story which follows (see attached files in the activity record) is an attempt on our part to preserve some family history. The information is a compilation of records and accounts from: the Federal Archives, county courts, family Bibles, newspapers, book references, and most importantly, the memories of family members. We have conversed and corresponded with many individuals, without whose help this story could not have been written. We would especially like to thank George and Edna Adams, Hazel Brazelton, Jim Rogers, Bill and Leoh Rogers, Annie Gilbert and Olive Whitney, who shared with us their pictures, documents, heirlooms and memories.
