"The famous Buffalo Sharps"-Although there are numerous Sharps rifles still in existence, the genuine 'Buffalo Sharps is now very rare. Only about 2,000 were manufactured and there use ceased with the extermination of the buffalo. This was the most powerful rifle, not only of its time, but even to date (July 1931) made and used in America. (See Frontier Firearms in Colorado, Colorado Magazine, May, 1930) by Chauncey Thomas and also his 'Butchering Buffalo', April 1928. This particular Buffalo Sharps was once owned and used by Chauncey Thomas. Thomas later sold the gun to Dr. Elbert Swerdfeger, who donated it to the museum. Chauncey Thomas was once a curator at the museum.
