General Note: Part of the CWA Pioneer Interviews Collection. Consists of an interview of Ira Gale, an early day resident of Las Animas County, Colorado. Born in 1858 in Illinois, Gale came to New Mexico in 1874 working as a cowboy. In 1899 he came to Las Animas County, working first for the Maxwell Land Grant Company and later for the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. Not much biographical information is found in this document, although he does relate some information on a number of early day cattle companies in the region, including the Red River Cattle Company, the Cimarron Cattle Company, and the Pawnee Cattle Company.
