Collection consists of scrapbooks of clippings, pamphlets, and other material relating to John Henry Nankivell, a senior instructor of the Colorado National and author of the book, History of the Military Organization of the State of Colorado 1860-1935. Most of the material pertains to military affairs. Born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1884, he served with a New Zealand contingent in South Africa during the Boer War in 1901-1902, and later served in the British Army from 1904-1907. In 1907 he came to America, enlisting in the Army as a private. He would see duty in the Philippines, as well as in the 157th Infantry in World War I in France. From 1928-1933 he served as senior instructor of the Colorado National Guard. He died in Denver in 1945.
