Project description: Dr. John Elliff was an eye surgeon who, upon retirement, began to collect oral histories with two different groups of individuals: World War II veterans who lived in the Sterling, Colorado area and Japanese American survivors of Colorado’s Amache prison camps. Together with his friend Denny Dressman, Elliff put the oral history interviews into two books, Beyond the Camps: From Japanese-American Internment Nightmare to ‘American Dream’ and Sterling Heroes of World War II. This donation includes a copy of each book, along with videos of the World War II veterans’ oral histories, some transcripts and indices of those videos, and Dr. Elliff’s research files for those oral histories.
