This ornament was obtained in an exchange with the Reverend Glen H. Ridnour (1917-1997) for an Oriental sword collection in April 1962. Reverend Ridnour was the pastor of the Calvary Methodist Church in Monroe, Wisconsin at the time. The reverend's family was originally from Iowa. They relocated several times while he was a youth including to South Dakota and Illinois. He pastored at a church in Alabama prior to moving to Monroe. Beginning in 1953, Mr. Ridnour began to buy and trade museum surplus artifacts from curators around the country. He would then sell them to the public in fundraiser events for the church. He was not limited to American Indian collections. He collected general Americana as well as Asian and African material.
