Colorado Magazine, Vol. XX, No. 2, March, 1943, p.80 states that a early Spanish trunk believed to have been the property of "the notorious San Luis Valley Espinosa bandits of the 1860s..." was donated in 1943 by Adolph G. Mayer, son of Leopold Mayer. The entry states, " Mr. Mayer's gift included also a pair of large Spanish spurs, a navy Colt's revolver, a pair of Indian moccasins, and a pair of chapellets."
