General Note: Part of the CWA Pioneer Interviews Collection. Consists of an interview of Lee Gillen, an early day resident of Otero County, Colorado. Born in Pennsylvania in 1857, Gillen came to Topeka, Kansas in 1879 where he found employment with the Atchsion, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. In 1880 he was transferred to La Junta, Colorado. The following year La Junta was incorporated, and Gillen married Ida Wickham with the minister performing the ceremony by telegraph line. Most of this interview consists of his recollections of early day La Junta.
