History in the Making: Collecting the Colorado COVID-19 Experience
History Colorado and the Colorado Media Project have teamed up to collect firsthand accounts of how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting Coloradans. Documented experiences will help future generations understand the impact of COVID-19 in Colorado. Launched on March 25, 2020 under the title History in the Making, the goals of this project include working with diverse communities across the Centennial State to ensure the historical record includes many voices, including those from underrepresented populations.
Designed to strengthen and build relationships, the project aims to give back in a variety of ways including sharing the items collected via initiatives such as this one; being an outlet for individuals to express their feelings and experiences in this unprecedented time; and serving as a resource for communities in need by providing food, supplies and handmade COVID-19 masks as a gesture of hope for recipients.
Items collected as part of History in the Making include, journals, audio recordings, surveys, photographs, videos, and artifacts. A select number of items from the History in the Making collecting COVID-19 project are presented here. More will be added as the collection grows.
History in the Making is ongoing as of May 2020. You can share your story by visiting: https://www.historycolorado.org/covid-19. For questions, including how to acquire copies or use rights, please contact us at photos@state.co.us
