Native American (Southern Ute) Sub-chief Nanise sits in front of a tepee with a group of women and children at a fair in New Mexico. He wears a feather headdress, fur covered braids, a fringed buckskin shirt, hairpipe necklace, a George Washington Peace Medallion, leggings with beaded bands and silver studs, and beaded moccasins. He holds a staff covered in cloth with feathers. The women wear shawls over their dresses.
