35mm color slide depicting the top of the Cooper Hill Ski Area (now known as Ski Cooper), taken on December 14, 1952 by Ray V. Frost (1907-2003). The slide depicts two people holding on the T-bar at the top of the ski hill and one woman in the foreground standing on her skis. Cooper Hill is located atop Tennessee Pass in Eagle and Lake Counties, ten miles north of Leadville, Colorado on U.S. Highway 24. The ski area opened in 1941 and, during World War II, was a training site for the 10th Mountain Division.
Ray Vermillion Frost (1907-2003) was a resident of Golden, Colo. and worked as a master brewer at Coors Brewing Company. He was also an avid photographer, traveler, skier, and mountaineer who photographed his road-trips, skiing, and hiking and climbing adventures throughout Colorado between circa 1930-1982.
