Collection consists of diaries (ca. 1851-1888), correspondence (ca. 1880-1882), legal documents (ca. 1884), and other items relating to George Addison Crawford. Born in Pennsylvania in 1827, Crawford graduated from Jefferson College. Active in both the law and journalism, Crawford became the editor of the Clinton Democrat in Pennsylvania. In 1857 he entered into a partnership in the Ft. Scott Townsite Company in Fort Scott, Kansas. In 1867 he was named U. S. Commissioner of Immigration. Moving to Colorado, Crawford helped to found the town of Grand Junction in 1880. He remained active in the town's business and political affairs until his death in 1891.
