Object has a slender, tapered wooden shaft and an ivory socket piece with a round-shaped tang that fits into the hole in the shaft and is lashed with sinew thread. The harpoon head fits into the slot in the socket piece. Harpoon head has 2 barbs on one side and one on the other side and is attached to the shaft with a rawhide line. Proximal end has 2 narrow slits in the wood that hold the remains of feathers. Other places on shaft have slits as well to hold the sinew thread. Wooden shaft is decorated with bands of black and red paint that encircle the shaft. One part of shaft is indented and this part is painted red and has sinew thread wound around it. Piece of wood is wrapped to shaft with black thread and could have been a finger rest, according to James W. Vanstone
