Denver, Texas and Gulf Railroad Company was formed by Governor John Evans and associates in 1885 to purchase, the Denver and New Orleans, (which was then in foreclosure) operating from Denver to Pueblo. In 1890, the Denver, Texas and Gulf became a part of the Union Pacific, Denver and Gulf, which, in turn, became part of the Colorado and Southern Railway Co. in 1898.
