Collection consists of transcripts of speeches and other material related to Wilbur Fiske Stone, a Colorado attorney, newspaperman and historian. Born in 1833 in Litchfield, Connecticut, Stone came to Colorado in 1859, serving on the first legislative assembly of the Territory of Colorado as well as on the judiciary committee of the Colorado Constitutional Convention. In 1877 he was elected to the Colorado Supreme Court. From 1891-1904 he served as one of five judges of the United States court adjudicating Spanish land-grant claims. Stone also served as the editor of the newspaper the Pueblo Chieftain. One item in this collection is a speech given by Stone to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1917, as well as a speech on the history of the city of Pueblo, Colorado. See also: MSS #2146.
