Collection consists of correspondence (ca. 1907), legal material (ca. 1868), and other material including affidavits and petitions regarding the destruction of some property owned by Thomas J. Buchanan by union troops commanded by General Sherman during the Civil War. Buchanan made a claim for $9,125 against the United States government for damages to property at Ackworth, Georgia. Buchanan later became a judge at the Miner's Court in Central City, Colorado.
