Collection consists of correspondence, clippings, ephemera and other material amassed by Henry Louis Larsen from 1952-1957 relating to the two presidential inaugurations of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Born in Chicago in 1890, Larsen entered the Marine Corps in 1913 as a second lieutenant. In 1917, he was on the first convoy to land in France during World War I. After the war, Larsen was assigned to numerous posts within the Corps, including Inspector and Director of Plans and Policies. After entry into World War II, Larsen was assigned to Guam, assuming the post of Commander while the marines attempted to recapture the island from the Japanese. After the end of the war, Larsen was promoted to Commanding General of the Department of the Pacific. Larsen retired on November 1, 1946. In 1949, he moved to Colorado and served as Colorado's Director of Civil Defense. As an active Republican and supporter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Larsen collected a number of pieces of ephemera and memorabilia related to the two presidential inaugurations, portions of which can be found in this collection. See also: MSS #1584.
