Colorado, due to its topography and location within the United States, has found air transportation an essential way of moving people and goods between widely separated cities and sections within the state to other places across the United States. From the pioneers who experimented with methods of flight as early as 1910, to modern pilots who fly for the airlines, military units of the armed forces and the thousands who use private aircraft for business and pleasure, aviation has been an essential aspect of Colorado's history since the early part of the 20th century.
